Product Description
The MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) protocol has been widely used in the studio and on stage by both amateurs and professionals since the early 80s. It serves as a means of communication between synthesizers, digital pianos, DAW software, and other music devices equipped with MIDI connections.
There are three main ways to connect MIDI devices:
Classic 5-Pin DIN MIDI: The classic MIDI cable is a 5-pin male/male DIN cable. To play two synthesizers simultaneously, you must connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI OUT jack (the jack through which data is emitted) of the first device to the MIDI IN jack (the jack through which data is received) of the second device. To connect multiple MIDI units, you will need a THRU MIDI jack, which allows data from one instrument to be sent to several others.
USB as MIDI: A MIDI interface is required when connecting an instrument with only 5-pin MIDI DIN connections to a computer with only USB ports, as these two interfaces are not compatible. The MIDI interface allows you to get the MIDI data from your instrument into your DAW.
USB MIDI Interface: USB-MIDI is a more modern method. If you want to plug a USB/MIDI keyboard into your computer, you'll need a standard USB cable (USB-A to USB-B or USB-C to B). Most USB/MIDI keyboards come with such a cable.
